BEIRUT: A delegation of wheat and olive farmers visited MP Ali Osseiran to complain about the accumulation of their production.
Osseiran emphasized the need to meet farmers’ demand noting that they should be assisted in the production and marketing of their produces.
BEIRUT: The European Union provided Lebanon’s Agriculture Ministry Friday a grant of 14 million euros ($20.14 million) to fund a four-year agricultural and rural development program. The grant agreement was signed between Agriculture Minister Hussein Hajj Hasan and Angelina Eichhorst, head of the EU delegation to Lebanon.
“The current agreement with the EU aims at boosting the performance of the Lebanese agriculture by improving four main components of the sector including the agriculture guidance, infrastructure, loans in addition to offering equipments to the ministry,” said Hajj Hasan.
BEIRUT: Potato farmers looking to recover losses made during an unseasonably dry harvest season last year have had their hopes dashed, as prices of the produce plummet to below total costs by roughly LL150 per kilogram.
The year’s first potato harvest, which runs from early June to late August, has seen yields that are “exponentially larger” than they have been in previous years, president of the Agriculture Association in Lebanon Antoine Hwayek told The Daily Star Monday.
